Some projects that we are working on:
- Member's Manual - We are in the process of assembling a
comprehensive "member's manual" that will contain information dealing with
various aspects of the volunteer fire service in Montana. This will
include information on finances, budgeting, sample Standard Operating
Procedures, sample by-laws, resource directory, training program development,
fire prevention, Montana State Surplus Property Program, State gas purchasing
card program, sample mutual aid agreements, insurance programs, grants & loans
directory, fund raising ideas, recruitment and retention programs, funeral
protocols, and other such subjects.
- Association web site - This will be the spot for volunteer
departments to find out information about the association, the various
association programs, convention information, and links to other Montana fire
service organizations
- Montana Fire Alliance - In conjunction with other Montana fire
service associations (Chiefs, Districts, Fire Wardens, Fire Instructors, &
others) we are an active member of the Montana Fire Alliance. This
is a coalition of fire suppression entities that provides coordination,
communication, & legislative information for agency cooperation and homeland
security. See the alliance web site at
http://www.montanafirealliance.org for more information.
- Legislative Activities - MSVFFA as part of the Montana Fire Alliance
has cooperated with the other MFA members to hire a John Semple as a lobbyist
for the 2003 legislative session. It is important that that we have a
presence in the Capitol so that we can a positive role in formation of
legislation that is favorable to the volunteer fire departments across
Montana. This was very successful in the 2001 legislative session and so
far this has also been successful in the 2003 Legislature.
