Somewhere Volunteer Fire District Emergency Response Policy

All members of the Somewhere Volunteer Fire District are generally referred to as "Firefighters." This includes firefighters, emergency medical responders, and support personnel.

The Somewhere Volunteer Fire District responds to emergencies only when paged by __________.

Firefighters of the Somewhere Volunteer Fire District will respond to emergencies in accordance with guidelines established in the Somewhere Volunteer Fire District Standard Operating Procedures Manual and will be fully dressed in the proper personal protective equipment. Improperly dressed personnel will be asked by the incident commander to leave the scene immediately.

Providing emergency services is a very serious and professional business. The lack of sleep, use of alcohol, certain drugs, or other causes may make one ineffective and detrimental to the safety of themselves and others as an emergency responder. A firefighter that has been drinking alcoholic beverages, taking either prescription or over-the counter medication that is known to create unacceptable side affects, using illegal drugs, or is physically and/or mentally exhausted must turn off their pager and not respond to emergency calls.

If the incident commander questions your physical or mental ability to safely be a benefit to the situation you will be safely removed from the scene.

Operators of emergency response apparatus must drive in a safe and prudent manner and obey all traffic laws.

Firefighters will follow the orders of the incident commander and/or their immediate ranking officer unless one feels that they cannot perform their duties safely; in which case will report to the incident commander for reassignment.

Firelighters are performing in a professional capacity and will conduct themselves as professionals. Violations may result in immediate suspension and possible termination.

ZERO TOLERANCE CONDUCT POLICY

Immediate suspension will be initiated for serious offenses of professional misconduct. Termination from the Fire Department will result if the membership review committee determines that you have:

1. Reported to duty while intoxicated or under the influence of illicit drugs, or:
2. Fragrantly endangered the safety of others, or:
3. Displayed gross insubordination on an emergency scene, or:
4. Been involved in the commission of a crime while representing the Fire Department:

I have read, understand, and will comply with the above policies.
