March 22, 2003 Meeting of the Board of Directors, Helena MT Meeting called to order by President Mike Zuhoski at 11:00 am Roll Call of Officers: Present Mike Zuhoski, Phil Meis, Mike Doto, Rodney Dresbeck, Stuart Fuller, Jim Barnes, Gary Colley, Leonard Lundby, Jeff Thomas Minutes of previous meeting were discussed and approved Treasures report: Treasures Report accepted as read. Standing Committees: Prevention Committee: Jim Barnes discussed Smoke Detectors. Spent $2000 and all detectors are gone. Have departments wanting them. Advised to spend the rest of the money. Membership Committee: All the Vice President gave a report on their activities since the convention (Fire Alliance). Most have had good meeting the departments in their districts. Legislative Committee: These bills were discussed in great length, Here are the highlights: Mike Z. and Gary Colley reported on the Firefighters Memorial Bill which passed and the Governor signed. License Plates: This hit a snag because we (MSVFFA) have only a 501 A status instead of a 501 C. We have started the paper work to get where we need to be. Ross has some of the paperwork because he was president at the time (when MSVFFA last re-did the paperwork for our tax exempt status). Bill for EMS to get a pension was discussed. John was advised to watch this bill. Pension bill was pulled because the Actuarial report said that there was not enough in the fund to support it. Bill for $3,000 (exemption) on the income tax was left in committee because of the way the state law reads. We have to fix the problem then run the bill again. We will just let this bill run its course. Leonard (stated) bill for the burn permits was heard and hit a snag. A bill similar was also introduced. Will have to see how this bill fares out. Convention: The agenda was discussed and last and final changes were made. The Executive Director position (for the Fire Alliance) was discussed. We don't know if this position is in effect now after the Legislation session. Discussed the web site for the association. Fuller did a good job. We need to make sure that we use it.
