2003 Convention Speaker Information

Robert Wetzler    (Topic: Minot Anhydrous Incident)

Bob has been a member of the Minot Rural Fire Department for over 22 years and has served as Fire Chief since 1987. He is a member of numerous fire service associations and currently serves as Northwest Region Trustee with the North Dakota Firefighter’s Association.. Bob is a member of the Ward County Minot Area Emergency Resource Council, a group he worked closely with during the January 18 2002 train derailment. Bob is employed by SRT Communications as an Outside Plant Engineer. He has been married for 34 years (to the same woman), has three grown daughters and three grandchildren. Bob is looking forward to retirement in about two years so he can spend more time fly fishing.

Bruce Suenram    (Topic: Firefighter Arsonist)

Bruce Suenram has worked in the field of fire protection and prevention since 1969. He currently is president of Fire Logistics, Inc., a fire protection consulting firm located in Montana City, Mt. Bruce served as Montana’s State Fire Marshal (1992-1997), as chief of the Missoula Rural Fire District (1980-1992), and as the chief of the Kelseyville, CA, Fire Protection District (1974-1980). Bruce was on the code development committee for the Urban/Wildland Interface Code and on the International Fire Chiefs Association Urban/Wildland Interface Committee. He acted as the liaison for the National Association of State Fire Marshals to the National Wildfire Coordinating Group’s Urban/Wildland Interface Advisory Committee. In addition, Bruce has taught courses for the National Fire Academy, the Northern Training Center, the Montana Fire Training School, and the Montana Law Enforcement Academy. He served as an Incident Commander for a Type II Incident Management Team for 8 years. Bruce is also qualified as a Planning Section Chief. He received a bachelor’s degree in biological sciences from California State College Stanislaus in 1973. Bruce is currently serving as President of the Board of Directors of the International Association of Wildland Fire.
